Using our five senses

We enjoyed using our five senses when tasting a range of foods!

Tell your Mum and Dad all about it! Get them to try different foods and ask them what part of their tongue was most sensitive.

·    “ I learnt Martine’s dog Westin helped guide her to places.” (Ellie May)

·    “Martine cut a side of her credit card so she knew which card was which where she paid for something.” (Sienna)

Dr Bendall comes to visit

We were very lucky to have Mischa's Mum come in and share her knowledge about the brain and how we should be protecting it.

There are two types of cells in our brain called Neuron and Glial.

We loved looking at the images of the brain too.

Maia remembered that the left side of her brain helps her with school things. Sienna knows that the right side of her brain controls her creativity.

The brain has 6 parts to help us talk (Amelia)

"When Dr Bendall was squeezing the egg it did not break because of the hard shell,"said Sahaana.
"The only reason it broke was when she put pressure on one side," said Clemmie.
"That is why it is important to wear a helmet when we are scootering or riding a bike," said Molly.

4LO become REAL Scientists

Today was the first time the Junior School has ever dissected the brain of a lamb. We had to use the brain map to look for different parts.

Can you see the brain stem?

We need the magnifying glass

My Amazing Brain

Our Shared Poem this week has been 'My Amazing Brain' by Lisa Wiseman. We labelled a diagram of our brain and used the Comic Book app to write about 'Our Amazing Brains.'

Tania's Comic Strip
Sophia's Comic Strip

What does your brain tell you to do?

What can you see?

In Reading we have been learning about foods that help our brain. Casey and Grace went to visit our Junior School garden today to see what was growing in there. What vegetables and fruit can you see???

What is Casey holding?

Thank you to our photographer Emma Ding.

We have been learning about the brain!

Did you know that the brain has three main parts?

Brainstem, Cerebrum and Cerebellum. They all play a special part in making sure our brain functions correctly.

Our brain is protected by our skull and cerebrospinal fluid.

We couldn't believe how heavy our brain was!
How heavy do you think our brain is?
The brain jelly before we had a spoonful each
Yummy!
Make sure you share your brain facts with your Parents.

Inquiry into Who We Are

Our Central Idea for this inquiry is, Learning is a fundamental characteristic of life.

The lines of inquiry that we will investigate in depth over the next few weeks will be:

  • The different ways of learning
  • Ways of creating an effective learning environment
  • The consequences of learning in a selected range of contexts
The learner profiles we will focus on throughout this inquiry are Knowledgeable, Open-Minded and Balanced.

Key concepts that will be explored during this inquiry are Responsibility (What is our responsibility?) and Reflection (How do we know?)

If you have any resources that can help with this inquiry please send them along to school.
